Dental calculus removal
Tooth discoloration along the gumline, tartar and yellowish stains on the surface of the teeth are aesthetic imperfections that can be easily remedied with thorough dental cleaning, tooth polishing and sandblasting. After undergoing these treatments at the dentist’s or oral hygienist’s office, careful care of the teeth and gums is very important in order to preserve a radiant smile.
Removal of dental calculus is not only an aesthetic procedure, but also an extremely important part of preventive dental care, since it helps prevent inflammation of periodontal tissues (periodontal disease). It is also an essential part of treatment for primary gum inflammation, called gingivitis.

At Medical Dentistry, dental calculus removal is performed with the help of an ultrasonic scaler, which crushes dental plaque above the gums and below the gumline. We also make sure to remove persistent discoloration between the teeth and at the edge of the gums.
The removal of dental calculus is always followed by tooth polishing. This procedure helps smooth out the surface of the teeth, which is slightly rough after having been treated with the ultrasonic scaler, and helps remove any remaining surface staining on the teeth.
After polishing, the teeth are very smooth, which helps prevent the accumulation of hard and soft plaque on the surface of the teeth.
In hard-to-reach areas, brown stains between the teeth are removed by sandblasting.
